Read this if you’re on the keto diet
Diet plays a major role in our overall health, as well as the appearance of our skin. I’m a big believer in the power of a plant-based diet that includes fish as a source of protein, but I’m well aware that many of my patients are turning to the keto diet to lose or maintain their weight.
However, the keto diet has been associated with a specific type of rash called prurigo pigmentosa, which can cause red, itchy bumps on the neck, back and abdomen. It’s important to keep in mind that this rash can be caused by any low-carb diet, as well as diabetes and other factors that prompt the body to burn fat as fuel. Keto rash is often mistaken for eczema, and these bumps can become brown or pigmented over time, which is why it’s essential to make an appointment if you experience any sudden skin changes whether you’re dieting or not.
