The Skinny on Platelet-Rich Plasma
You’ve surely heard of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) by now, but odds are you have a few questions about it. Much more than the “Vampire Facial” that’s been all over Instagram, PRP can be used well beyond the face for pro-aging and rejuvenating benefits.
But first the basics… PRP uses growth factors and other proteins that are isolated from a patient’s own blood. The treatment begins with a simple blood draw, and the blood is then processed to separate the key components that have been found to promote skin healing and rejuvenation. I like to combine PRP with microneedling and/or chemical peels for a comprehensive approach that targets multiple layers of the skin for optimal results.
In addition to improving visible signs of aging and scarring on the face, PRP is an effective treatment for hair loss, and it can be effective for intimate enhancement as well. Researchers are paying a lot of attention to PRP and there’s an abundance of scientific evidence that is works. This treatment has evolved and improved greatly in recent years, and I expect to see more ways to use PRP in the years to come. Stay tuned!
