#GetNaked for Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May marks Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a time to prioritize our skin health and commit to regular skin checks. This year, Bergen Dermatology is proud to support the Get Naked campaign, led by celebrity esthetician Ian Michael Crumm in partnership with the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF).
Why Skin Checks Matter
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., but it's also one of the most preventable. Early detection through regular skin exams can significantly improve treatment outcomes. At Bergen Dermatology, we emphasize the importance of both self-exams and professional evaluations to monitor any changes in your skin. Your skin health always comes first—taking a proactive approach now can save you from complications later.
The Get Naked Campaign: A Personal Mission
Ian Michael Crumm's involvement in the Get Naked campaign is deeply personal. Inspired by his grandmother, a melanoma survivor, Ian has dedicated his career to promoting sun safety and skin health. Through this campaign, he encourages individuals to perform monthly skin checks and adopt daily sun protection practices.
Sun Protection Tips
- Apply Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen: Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, even on cloudy days.
- Reapply Regularly: Reapply every two hours, or more frequently if swimming or sweating.
- Wear Protective Clothing: Utilize UPF-rated clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses.
- Seek Shade: Especially during peak sun hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
-
Schedule Regular Skin Exams: Perform self-exams monthly and consult with a dermatologist annually.
